100+ years of outfitting tradition . . . Since 1857 Sanders Store has been the premier outfitter, supplier, guide service, and information center for adventurers and woodsmen venturing into the North Maine woods. For generations David Sanders and family ran the largest sporting goods store in New England. This tradition carried on in the Sanders family for more than 150 years until the late 80’s when an unfortunate downturn in the local economy finally forced its closure. In 1994, after many years in flux, the current owner Mike Boutin started a shop by renting space in the smallest corner of the great landmark store. As word got out and business steadily increased Boutin was finally able to purchase the property and pursue his dream of creating a modern version of an outfitter’s store. Today Northwoods Outfitters has blossomed into a full fledged sporting goods store, outfitter, and guide service servicing customers from all over the world. At Northwoods Outfitters friendly home town customer service coupled with experience and knowledge of the North Woods (over half of the staff are Registered Maine Guides) is what makes the difference.
