Ever think, “Are those guys nuts just sitting around a hole in the ice, hoping for a fish to bite?” Well, here at Northwoods Outfitters we throw out the nuts and pack in the fun, wherever we go.  It is never ‘just fishing’ with our experienced Maine Guides.  With knowledge attained through first hand experience our guides provide an array of activities while enjoying Moosehead Lake in her winter attire.  A day of ‘just fishing’ may include snowshoeing or cross-country skiing to a near by island to catch a glimpse as a moose munches on a stand of striped maple; or it may include hoping on a snowmobile, zipping up lake for a better view of Kineo as she rises straight out of the ice, or of Katahdin(Maine’s largest mountain) looming in the distance east.  And for those cold and windy days nothing can beat storytelling and hot chocolate fireside in the comfort of our wood heated ice fishing house.

Our ice fishing package is fun for the whole family.  We meet at Northwoods Outfitters, located in downtown Greenville, and from there provide transportation to and from the ice house.  Your guide assists you in setting ‘tip ups’ and ‘jigging sticks’ through holes drilled in the ice.  Ice fishing in the Moosehead Lake Region can be some of the fastest fishing of the year.  Moosehead Lake contains a variety of both warm and cold water game fish.  We fish mostly for Landlocked Salmon, Lake Trout, Brook Trout and Smallmouth Bass.  When the fishing finally takes a lull, enjoy a hot meal (maybe that day’s earlier catch) and drinks from the comfort of the wood heated fishing house.

Ice fishing with us is not only fun and exciting, but is educational and informative.  Your guide may discuss not only the art of ice fishing, but also that of tracking, hunting, skiing, or snowshoeing.  You might even draw a story of some misadventure or rugged expedition from which your guide has learned much, and hopefully only at the cost of their ego.  We love the north Maine woods here at Northwoods Outfitters, and love sharing it with all types folks, so stop in and become a friend.
